Structural Engineer/Inspector

Summary

Drafts detailed structural drawings, details and specifications used in the planning and construction of civil engineering projects such as retaining walls, foundations, piling plans, deck plans, and other various structural engineering projects. Also able to conduct structural inspections of homes & other buildings to determine required repairs and recommendations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following

  • Prepares drawings, specifications, and other engineering related items based on coordination with the Project Manager.
  • Conduct structural inspections of various scope to determine repairs required or if a home is structurally sound. Includes inspections in crawlspaces with limited clearances.
  • Ability to fill in and assist on other projects from other departments as needed. I.e. site plan design, plot plans, etc.
  • Other duties may be assigned as the business needs change.

Qualifications

A minimum of 2 years experience preparing drawings and/or conducting inspections for Civil Engineering projects.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college, university, or technical school with an E.I.T. is preferred. AutoCAD Civil 3D is required.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret cause and effect of various structural defects and potential sources for these issues.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have extensive knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D. Softwares used:

  • Microsoft office
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Vespa 2, Keywall Pro, AB Walls
  • ReSSA Slope Stability
  • Digital Canal Structural Suite

Physical Demands

Able to navigate occasional shallow crawlspaces and cramped attics. Respirators will be provided for the individual’s use at their discretion on site. Work Environment

Occasionally requires inspections in tight spaces in all weather conditions: hot or cold, rain or shine. Design work is conducted in office with occasional field visits for measurements and inspections.
