Field Crew, Party Chief

Summary

Field positions responsible for assisting in a variety of business areas including surveying and engineering field work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise, participate in, and coordinate surveying jobs and crew responsibilities.
  • Use GPS and survey equipment to collect and validate data, process that data, and ensure the accurate downloading of all work completed.
  • Manage assigned vehicle and inventory.  This includes making sure that your vehicle has the proper equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for monitoring and communicating vehicle maintenance concerns or issues to your reporting manager.
  • Calculate and verify computations, and create and verify sketches and CAD drawings.
  • Collect information needed to carry out new surveys, using tax maps, filed maps previous survey data, photographs, and other relevant information.
  • Adjust and operate surveying instruments such as prisms, theodolites, and robotic distance-measuring equipment.
  • Position and hold the vertical rods, or targets, that instrument operators use for sighting to measure angles, distances, and elevations.
  • Search for corner markers, monuments, property irons, and survey points.
  • Cuts and clears brush and trees from line of survey.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Technology – Basic computer skills; ability to learn new technologies; uses technology to increase accuracy and productivity.
  • Math Skills- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Physical Demands- This is an outdoors position that requires frequent movement and lifting up to 25 pounds. 
  • Cooperation – Offers assistance and support to co-workers.
